Savannah Bird Girl Necklace (Large)
Details
The Savannah Bird Girl is considered one of the most iconic symbols of the city of Savannah. The original statue was sculpted in bronze by Chicago artist Sylvia Shaw Judson and was intended to hold birdseed. In 1940, a local family purchased a cast of Sylvia Shaw Judson's statue and placed it in a plot at Bonaventure Cemetery. The symbol was popularized by the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" by Jack Leigh, when the author put an image of the replica statue in Bonaventure on the cover of his book.
This necklace is based on the famous Savannah statue in Bonaventure cemetery. Out of the three Savannah Bird Girl pieces I have created, this is the largest, standing at 30mm tall and weighing 11 grams. It is affixed to an 18 inch figaro style chain. Both the charm and chain are solid sterling silver. The Bird Girl herself is solid to the core with no hollowing taking place.
